Extreme Networks 400-24t MGMT is experiencing blinking lights?
It's strange, I'm curious about what might have gone wrong. Checking everything, everything appears normal.
It hasn't been power cycled recently. Most Summit switches Extreme built in the past two decades were started from flash and run from RAM, which means the flash might have failed long ago. You only realized this when you needed it to boot. It's time to obtain or create a serial cable.
Sure thing. I’ll also place an order for another switch at the same price—about thirty dollars. To be truthful, I’d have preferred not to replace it.
Consider purchasing the alternative options listed. One is an eBay adapter for Cat-5E Ethernet, while the other is a product from Amazon.
The eBay item should work if the wiring matches; just verify the compatible switches first, or you might end up with a purple paperweight. The Amazon listing is a USB to serial converter—useful if you lack a device with a physical serial port. I don’t recall owning a PC with a real serial port recently.
From memory, all connections are turned off by default or can be set up during startup. It seems to depend on the model and whether Extreme was developed recently. If it’s a basic setup, the management port should automatically get an IP via DHCP. Plug the OOB management port into your LAN and check for the lease. Use telnet to the assigned IP if needed. If already configured, you can review ARP requests with Wireshark on your PC. Login details are admin / nothing by default. When prompted, enable all ports. If issues persist, consider using a USB-to-serial adapter and a proper serial cable for troubleshooting. Cheers Shannon
