I'm using the newest BIOS version, but the issue remains unresolved. If I need to revert a file from 2019, I might manually downgrade it since I typically update via the Lenovo Vantage app. Be aware of any potential risks and take necessary precautions before proceeding.
Installing an outdated BIOS version can pose significant dangers. Your device might become completely non-functional, preventing it from even powering on. Reach out to Lenovo and express your frustration about the Nvidia GPU thermal throttling setting being set to 65°C. Their choice has rendered your laptop inoperable. Request them address the issue they caused. Avoid putting your laptop at risk due to their actions. When the Nvidia GPU is restricted to 139 MHz, it becomes entirely unusable.
I noticed another member on the Lenovo Forums facing the same issue. They mentioned that lowering the BIOS version helped resolve it. I decided to try downgrading my BIOS to an older release for gaming purposes. The problem didn’t disappear. I also ran a clean install of the Nvidia drivers, but it still didn’t fix the matter. My system’s maximum temperature stays around 64°C and clock speeds are usually below 500MHz. Could dust be contributing? Thanks for any advice you might have! Edited October 29, 2020 by krkeshav123
The system is running smoothly now. I had to adjust my BIOS to performance mode to achieve this. It seems Lenovo added this feature after the BIOS update. Although I’m seeing stable FPS, the Turbo Boost shuts off after about a minute of gameplay, and the GPU temperature has risen to 67°C from 64°C. Can’t ask for much more.
