Extreme attempts to boost x58 RAM performance through reckless tweaking and experimentation
I've been checking RAM overclocking on this platform and the 1Gbit Samsung revision seems quite alike to the 2Gbit revision when it comes to overclocking issues. The problem with RAM dividers is clear—if I want higher speeds, I have to step up in 400MHz steps. To reach 2200MHz, I need to push to 4400MHz uncore, but anything below 4100MHz will hurt performance. Right now, stabilizing uncore above 4100MHz isn't working. At 4.3GHz, changing the QPI voltage to 1.55V doesn’t help; it only works at 1.5V but not at 1.45V. With 4.2GHz, the voltage stays at 1.55V and doesn’t trigger. It seems like finding a stable setting above 4100MHz is the challenge.
The top-tier (Gulftown) chips are grouped more accurately, and some can handle such high demands. That’s why I brought up the W series before.
