Extensive stuttering issues are common.
My computer experiences sudden stuttering, especially in games or while browsing. The mouse jumps erratically across the screen every few seconds. I've changed hardware, updated BIOS, and checked temperatures, but nothing resolves the issue. Both monitors behave similarly. I'm unsure what's causing it. I read about a TPM bug in AMD's release notes and tried an older BIOS version, which helped. An offline scan was run, but results remain unclear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It's disappointing in this situation but it seems connected to the problem at hand. Your motherboard model wasn't specified; did the BIOS documentation reference AGESA ComboAm4v2PI 1.2.0.7? You can turn off fTPM if unnecessary, but verify that nothing is encrypted if you choose. Be aware you might miss some Windows updates.
AMD's official guidance: The support notes outline details for addressing occasional performance hiccups on certain PCs using Windows 10 and 11 with the fTPM feature enabled.
Problem Summary: AMD has identified that specific AMD Ryzen setups can experience sporadic memory operations in SPI flash memory (SPIROM) due to fTPM, causing brief system slowdowns. This may result in temporary delays in responsiveness until the issue resolves.
Fix and Updates: Devices affected will need a BIOS update that includes improved fTPM handling for SPIROM. AMD anticipates that compatible sBIOS updates will become available from early May 2022. The timing of these updates varies by manufacturer. Flashable updates will follow AMD AGESA 1207 (or later).
Alternative Solution: In the meantime, customers relying on fTPM support for Trusted Platform Module may switch to a hardware TPM (dTPM) device. These modules use internal memory that replaces the fTPM/SPIROM interaction described here.
Compatibility Note: Confirm with your system or manufacturer to ensure your platform supports dTPM before proceeding.
Caution: Changing from fTPM to dTPM requires disabling TPM-based encryption (like BitLocker) and backing up important data. You need full admin rights, or IT approval if managed. For details on moving ownership to a new TPM device, refer to the Microsoft resource.
My MOBO is applying the mentioned update to resolve this problem.
Are there any intensive programs active in the background? Have you verified the Windows system files with sfc /scannow? Are your storage devices functioning properly (Hard Disk Sentinel)? Did you install the newest AMD chipset driver released roughly a month ago on AMD's site? Could the issue stem from a faulty mouse or other USB peripherals, such as a mousepad?
