Extensive apartment area signal reach
Extensive apartment area signal reach
Hello everyone, I just moved into my new apartment and had optical fiber installed. The technician suggested placing it in the living room, which is far from the rest of the space, resulting in weak Wi-Fi. My plan for the apartment layout is shown here: https://imgur.com/a/yBfA0wQ Plus. I intended to use the smallest bedroom as my office and wanted a direct Ethernet connection between my computer and the router for optimal performance. I’ve already tried a powerline setup at my parents’ place—it generally works about 99%, though sometimes the connections get loose, requiring a full rebuild and affecting speed. That said, I’m open to a longer Ethernet cable if it’s the only option, as drilling through walls would be costly. Could anyone advise on the best approach? Thanks in advance!
It seems like this is the best approach for a tech professional to handle a home installation without needing detailed instructions from the end user. Initially, you should create a plan outlining which rooms need connection and what devices will be linked. Consider whether your existing TV service uses the same carrier—then you can run separate cables for each tuner, making the process smoother.
Your next step should focus on the building’s condition: is the apartment old? Are there unused PVC pipes in the fuse box? If so, it’s likely they lead to a room, simplifying wiring. You could even install a switch and connect the rest of the home from there. For wireless setups, you’ll need at least one physical connection; repeaters or mesh extenders aren’t essential.
The main difference lies in the number of antennas used, which can affect speed and latency. My recommendation is to check if running cables is feasible—if yes, connect them and map out the layout. Then address any gaps.
Thanks for your advice, there is unfortunately no way to use a pre existing way for the ethernet wire So I guess I'd be better off drilling as clean as I can, at least from the living room to my office, and I'll probably get a few routers that support meshed networking to cover the rest of the appartement wirelessly.
