I reside in a brand-new residence equipped with a Zyxel C3510XZ router and comprehensive home Wi-Fi. The appealing feature is its Wi-Fi 6 capability along with built-in network extenders that connect to the router’s Ethernet port. What bothers me is the full coverage except for the garage and driveway area, which becomes problematic when I access my phone through the garage door. I purchased a mesh outlet device, but the app indicates unsupported functionality. Can I utilize an Ethernet port in the garage to connect a router for better garage and driveway connectivity? Or are there alternative solutions? Thanks!

The router would switch to AP mode and function effectively. The main advantage is you don’t have to invest in a very powerful or costly device if it’s just handling basic tasks.

Is it required for Wi-Fi 6? It will join the network as a mesh connection.

Since the project is limited to covering the driveway and garage, a WiFi 6 connection isn't essential unless you specifically need it, which would add extra cost. For my choice, I prioritize coverage over speed, especially if the area won’t see much traffic and needs to reach the end of the driveway.

The connection type doesn't matter; it stays within the same network, and devices can move between them.

WiFi 6 is merely a standard, and a device that isn’t Wi-Fi 6 won’t impact the rest of your network. It functions as an access point, simply broadening the coverage. If you’re aiming for true WiFi 6 capability, the Netgear WAX202 is available at their site. https://www.netgear.com/business/wifi/ac...opping-cpc My interactions with Netgear have always been positive, so I’d likely choose this model if it was on sale.

It should recognize and immediately switch to AP mode, provided you're employing a wired backhaul (such as an Ethernet cable linking them).
