Exploring My Ryzen Linux Journey (Kubuntu 18.04)
Completely removing mesa is possible, especially with amdgpu installed.
Sure, I’ll give it a shot. What I’ve been reading suggests AMD GPU support for Ryzen APUs was added in version 4.16, but others reported success with 4.18 and the latest MESA build (around 18.2). That’s why I’m using it now.
AMDGPU and MESA are separate drivers, while Mesa is a universal driver. The generic driver is Mesa, and you should rely solely on AMD GPU for compatibility.
Sure, I understand. I'll wait to respond after uninstalling and testing. I'm currently working.
Consider if alternative packages are available through backports, as they should cover most of what will appear in 18.10.
Linux is the only OS I’m using—my gaming PC runs Windows, but I’m switching to Linux for my Daily Driver. After removing MESA and updating to kernel 4.18.5, I’m seeing around an 85% success rate. I plan to move to Fedora 28 this weekend or next week as recommended. I’ve set up a VM and everything seems to be working fine.
