Exploring alternative Windows themes can introduce potential issues. Risks may include compatibility problems with software or operating system updates, performance slowdowns, and security concerns if third-party tools are involved. Installing such themes often requires manual setup or using plugins like ThemePatchers, which can complicate the process. If complications arise, restoring your original theme is usually straightforward by uninstalling the new one and reinstalling it. Always back up settings before making changes.

The video guide advises creating a restore point before applying a new theme. This ensures you can revert to a previous state if the operating system becomes corrupted, preventing data loss before the restore point. Additionally, it’s a good idea to back up your files. I personally prefer Windows as it is and value practical functionality over flashy design.

@Crunken , this is a situation where you really can't tell what are the full ramifications for installing/using this theme. The dev. has nothing about security on DeviantArt, does it present any back doors, does it have any hidden botnets the only thing you do know it they know that it may not work with all systems therefore you need a restore point, so if i were you and i really wanted to install this then i would backup all my needed data before doing so.

Seems like many extra dangers or issues for just switching the file manager, probably time to skip it.

Disregarding everything else, we lack clarity on how these changes could affect upcoming Windows updates. It’s possible they might appear later, potentially causing system instability and requiring a full clean installation. You need to get ready for that scenario, since updates are regularly released. The challenge here is that these modifications don’t align with the official update process—they actually alter system files to achieve this effect. Windows doesn’t allow OS-level skins; previously, supported skins existed but needed Microsoft digital signatures, leaving only OS-provided themes. Microsoft never allowed third-party themes, likely to prevent security risks and maintain service stability. Some developers tried bypassing this by editing the theme loading module to skip signature checks, but these solutions are no longer available.

Currently, safer alternatives include tools like WindowsBlinds, which use code injections instead of changing system files, offering better security. However, future updates—such as the upcoming Fall Creators Update (Redstone 3)—could pose new risks. To minimize issues, always uninstall such applications before upgrading and reinstall them afterward.
