During the latest Cyber Monday promotions, I bought an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and opted to delay purchasing a new motherboard until I had a better offer or clearer specifications. My typical PC tasks include playing recent AAA games, engaging in competitive CS and RL games, and editing video or audio files. Currently, I’m considering the ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F WiFi board or the MSI B550 Tomahawk. My budget for a motherboard is around $150, though many recommend higher-end options (up to an extra $30). My existing setup consists of: a Thermaltake Level 20 RS ARGB case (ATX), 32GB 3200MHz G.Skill TridentZ RAM, a Seasonic FOCUS 750W power supply, an XFX THICC III AMD 5700XT AIO graphics card, and a Corsair H115i 280mm CPU socket. I’m upgrading from an Intel i5-8600K and a Prime Z370-A CPU. The 5800X was chosen mainly because the price matched its performance level, and I realized that a significant jump in CPU generation no longer delivers substantial gains. I also hope to eventually use my GPU more effectively with a better CPU. Thanks! Also, have you noticed that buying a used motherboard isn’t usually wise? I’ve seen some great deals on Newegg and Amazon.
What aspects are important to you? Are you sure about the ATX requirement or can mATX be used?
I understand the point you're making. I was considering using a bottlenecking setup, but it doesn't seem to be an option. The case would look awkward with a tiny board inside, and my GPU is quite big too, so reducing the case size isn't feasible. I've been thinking about switching to a smaller ATX model, but keeping the same form factor.
