The 5600x seems well-suited for productivity and gaming tasks. Given my uncertainty about future computing needs, I believe the extra cores in the 5800x would help with demanding workloads. Regarding heat, a strong output shouldn’t necessarily shorten lifespan if cooled properly with an nh-d15 cooler.
I purchased a 5800X and would run it now if the motherboard came with was sound. I didn’t want the 5600X because it only has six cores and my 6-core Intel struggles beyond just gaming. My primary gaming rig uses an i9 10900K, and in the game that demands over 6 cores/threads at 1080p, it runs 15 frames ahead compared to a stock 6-core setup with 5GHz overclocks. I also have an i9 9900K, which handles the situation without problems, so I’m comfortable with eight cores. My 5800X will run on a 360mm AIO, so I expect it stays cool. The i9 10900K handles games in the low 60s with one core, and I expect similar performance with the 5800X. My i7s and i9 9900K use NH-D15s, but I think the 5800X will perform well with one, though the i9 10900K setup looks much better than the Noctua builds, which is why I chose the AIO.
I considered future-proofing and thought the 8-core configuration would likely perform better over time, so I estimated a 5800x boost.
