The distinction lies in the power supply configurations: 12+2 versus 10+3. The first offers more output ports, while the second provides a slightly different voltage and current rating. Let me know if you need further clarification!

Refer to the official motherboard documentation; typically the first number controls the CPU cores while the second manages the iGPU and other components.

The first value relates to the VCore, while the second varies by platform (SOC for AM4, VCCIN for LGA 1700, etc.). Generally, higher numbers are preferable, but differences are common and not always meaningful.

I don't have igpu and only need a system with at least 10 cores. It's sufficient.

I own a Ryzen 5000 and tried a more affordable board that was sufficient. It didn’t seem like the VRM setup was too different, so I wanted to learn more about how it changes with CPU power and cores. I checked the CPU’s TDP watt first and saw if my motherboard could handle it.

Focus on the overall setup rather than just phase counts. The X570 Pro4 runs with 8+2 phases and offers the strongest VRM on the board, whereas the Crosshair VIII Impact uses a 4-phase design and is considered one of the better VRMs for X570. Most affordable AM4 boards can support an 8-core Ryzen 5000 chip, though price doesn’t always reflect quality. Many budget-friendly options deliver solid performance—like the B550 Steel Legend, B550 Tuf, and B550-A Pro.

I purchased the gigabyte b550 gaming X v2, but it was already full at ATX and the price was low when I thought about Asus TUF, though it didn’t fit my budget. About a week later, they offered a discount of around fifty dollars on my motherboard. Mine alertnative switched to the GIGABYTE B550M AORUS Elite, but it’s a MATX board and I preferred a larger one. It has an integrated face shield for protection.
