Comparing AMD drivers from their website versus the Windows 8.1 update, the version I currently use is 14.4, updated on the AMD site in 25.4.2014 with a size of 256MB. The system update released on 23.7.2014 offers a smaller 120MB package. AMD CCC doesn’t list any new updates beyond beta versions that aren’t required at the moment. The newer release seems to be more recent, but it’s unclear if Win 8.1 is truly updated compared to the older driver.

I usually avoid using Windows updates for drivers. I favor downloading them directly from the manufacturer’s website. The Windows Update might only contain the driver, not the additional files like those in AMD Catalyst (such as HDMI audio drivers).

I thought Windows were confirmed storage devices, thoroughly checked so they function perfectly. It wasn’t that long ago when the 14th release came out, I got it from the AMD site and they simply denied installation.

yeah, probably that. So they aprooved it for windows later so it was released later on win updates....but why is it showing? I mean if I am up to date why is it suggesting to "update" when it is the same driver?
