Hi All - I assembled my PC in December 2021 and have faced this problem since then. The main issue is occasional stuttering, especially during gameplay, which is quite annoying. (Video link: https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/752251235 ... you’ll see the stutter during skill checks. It’s most noticeable when I move quickly or during a skill check.)
PC Specifications: Windows 11, CPU: Ryzen 9 5950X, Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, GPU: ASUS ROG Strix 3090, RAM: 128GB G.SKILL TridentZ 4266, PSU: 1200W Platinum Rated Seasonic
What I’ve tried so far:
- Tested components one by one
- Ran benchmarks in a clean environment
- Swapped the PSU
- Updated BIOS to the version supporting Ryzen fTPM 2.0/AGESA fix
- Downgraded TPM to version 1.2 (turning off many features can help)
- Ensured drivers are up to date
- Temperatures are low, so it’s not that hot either.
Any suggestions or alternatives would be appreciated.

It seems the issue often relates to overheating, particularly when using high-performance components. They tend to get very hot. What kind of case are you using? How do you manage heat dissipation? Share your temperature readings so we can better understand the situation. The stutter problem can stem from many factors and isn’t always easy to identify.

I'm using the 'be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4' to keep the CPU cool while running the Thermaltake Tower 900. I'll test temperatures tonight under load and share the findings. At first I assumed it was just a normal issue, but after fixing other problems like the TPM2.0/Ryzen bios update, the situation improved.

This product comes in multiple versions since its original description claimed chimney effect capacity it didn’t possess. It’s typically used for watercooling applications. I’m not sure how to open it. If it can be opened easily, a “flood the zone” cooling test could help. You force a large amount of fast air through the whole system. Usually I do this by removing the side panel and directing a window fan across the open area. If the issue is resolved, you’ll know a component is overheating.

I ran several tests using this setup. The three glass panels on the front and sides came away easily. Here’s what I found:
- Checked normal condition, problem stayed.
- Tested with glass removed, issue continued even at 'similar temperatures'.
- Used glass off, AC system flooded with 35-degree air; temperature dropped slightly but not significantly.

BUMP - I just don't get what the problem is here... This computer should be a powerhouse, but instead its annoyingly bad at times and seemingly ok at others. There always is a stutter, but sometimes its unplayable. Any other thoughts, diagnostics i can run, etc.?

The Buffer bloat problem seems intriguing, background applications were a worry for me, so I dismissed that and updated the BIOS to the newest version. I’ll investigate further about buffer bloat and if it doesn’t resolve, I might reimage and start with a clean build to remove any lingering issues.

The issue with stutter comes from numerous possible causes. For instance, temperature changes might appear normal since sensors only measure their immediate surroundings. There are countless factors involved, and you’d need to examine each one individually until the problem resolves.

It seems the problem has mostly been fixed. I use a 3440x1440 ultra wide display and need to lower the resolution to a 16:9 format to avoid stretching. The stuttering only appears when I adjust the screen size via Windows settings. All UW games worked without issues, though some that auto-black bar the screen performed better. I haven’t experienced this problem in about two weeks.
