I've been working on improving my home Wi-Fi recently, aiming for a newer Wi-Fi 6 setup. My Arris Dg9450 modem supports Wi-Fi 6 but I've faced some strange issues—especially with wireless connections becoming very unstable, particularly on the 5GHz band, though it performed better on the 2.4GHz. Speed tests showed solid performance (around 20ms latency, 700-800 Mbps download, 40-50 upload), but packet loss tests revealed significant fluctuations between 70-95%. My internet provider suggested replacing the modem with an older Arris DG3450, which worked fine for me. I then upgraded to a new ASUS ROG STRIX GS-AX3000 router and set up a fresh Wi-Fi network. The results were much smoother for a day, but when I switched back to the old modem, the same problems resurfaced. It's puzzling and I'm struggling to find a solution. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm facing a stability problem with Wi-Fi 6 and don't think giving up is the answer. The idea of reverting to older tech seems like a better path. It's hard to see that would actually help if it were effective. If this were a real solution, the title would reflect that clearly.

Could lower electronic waste. In the past, a 28.8k modem was sufficient. And internet speeds were expressed in kilobits.
