Following driver updates for my GTX 880M hasn't resolved the issue with Minecraft. Initially it worked with Intel integrated graphics, but it crashed shortly afterward. The game freezes during joining or shows a flashing screen, then crashes at startup. I've tried reinstalling drivers, downgrading and upgrading versions of Java, creating new worlds, joining servers, and checking for updates. The Minecraft launcher keeps reporting problems, sometimes saying "can't play" or "sound not found." It seems the crash originates inside the Java virtual machine, possibly due to performance issues or bugs. I'm considering reinstalling Minecraft as a last resort, running it with the default version and no mods or skins.

Failed attempt now. Can't launch GTX even on a laptop. Tried forcing Minecraft to use Nvidia control center, but it still defaults to HD4600.

It seems the fix helped a lot, but some issues remain. The game would crash with the same Java error before. To play smoothly, you need either the HD 4600 or manually select GTX graphics each time you launch Minecraft. Avoid using HD 4600 unless you choose GTX in the settings. If you force GTX from Nvidia's control panel, it still crashes. Using automatic graphics sometimes forces HD 4600 even though it claims to use GTX. Try right-clicking Minecraft and selecting GTX graphics for a stable run now.
