Experiencing intermittent lag, pauses, and inaccurate registration in every game [NEED ASSISTANCE]
I am encountering a similar problem. I’m experiencing hit registration difficulties with opponents, and frequently feel delayed when beginning gunfights. Occasionally, I achieve consistent accuracy and perform exceptionally well—particularly when using assault rifles within the game—but this is infrequent. Previously, I had a comparable internet connection at another residence with reduced speed and higher latency, yet my shots registered more quickly, and I performed better. Currently, it feels like kills take longer, and opponents respond with increased speed. In fact, when playing against the same individuals, they seem to initiate gunfights with noticeably more responsiveness.
I've attempted various troubleshooting methods, such as connecting my router to a different port and modifying TCP/IP Optimizer settings along with router control panel configurations, but the outcome remains unchanged. My connection provides 43 Mbps upload and 4-5 Mbps download speeds, without any packet loss. I suspect that the issue lies with the underlying network infrastructure serving my connection. It’s incredibly frustrating, not only because I haven't found a resolution but also because I observe my performance metrics decline and my enjoyment diminish.
I am contemplating contacting my internet provider to discuss this, though I’m unsure how best to articulate the issue clearly. I anticipate they will likely attribute it to problems within the game itself rather than any network deficiencies.
I’m encountering a similar difficulty. I'm experiencing hit registration issues with other players, and frequently feel delayed when engaging in gunfights. There are occasional periods where I perform exceptionally well, particularly with AR weapons within a game – this improvement is quite noticeable. However, these moments are infrequent. Previously, I experienced comparable latency with a different internet connection at another residence, utilizing the same equipment (specifically, the router), despite having worse speeds and ping. That connection felt significantly better, allowing me to accurately target and register hits on opponents more quickly than I currently do. Now it seems like it takes longer to eliminate an enemy, and opponents appear to react more rapidly. I’ve even played against the same individuals, and they seem to initiate gunfights with a noticeable advantage over their previous performance.
I’ve attempted various troubleshooting steps, including switching my router to a different port and modifying TCP/IP Optimizer settings, as well as adjusting router control panel configurations. Despite these efforts, I continue to experience the same problems. My connection provides 43 upload and 4-5 download speeds, without any packet loss detected. I suspect the issue lies with the internet infrastructure serving my area. It’s frustrating not only because I haven't found a resolution but also because the metrics of my gameplay are declining, diminishing my enjoyment.
I'm considering contacting my ISP to discuss this, but I’m unsure how to clearly articulate the problem. They are likely to dismiss my concerns by stating that the issue is with the games themselves, not my connection. My friend, who lives two hours from me and uses the same ISP, has been facing this problem since July 2015 – it seems persistent and difficult to resolve due to ISPs’ lack of responsiveness. If you can identify the root cause, you could advise them on necessary changes. I believe there might be a damaged route path in our region or a deeper issue within the internet backbone. The only viable solution I’ve found so far is relocating and selecting a property where the infrastructure doesn't present problems before renting or purchasing. The problem manifests at varying degrees on different days, with some game mechanics functioning better or worse spontaneously. I often observe a shift in ping to the server when these changes occur. It's certainly not a hardware issue – as demonstrated by numerous PCs and pre-built systems with identical components that are unaffected, despite my friend having the same model experiencing consistent problems. If it were a PC component or software issue, others with identical systems would likely be encountering the same problem.
I replaced my hard drive because it was faulty, and a technician repaired my computer’s internal storage. The disruptive pauses in the game have disappeared, but I still experience inconsistent hit detection.
Looking back, years ago, we were informed about a minor problem with internet networks. However, when I inquired months ago about potential service fees, my Internet Service Provider assured me that everything was operating optimally and there were no concerns. At that time, I recognized the root of my difficulties, so I attempted several solutions without success. Last night, attempting to play that specific game again led to intense frustration, prompting me to abandon the session after a month of inactivity—a reaction born from repeated disappointment. I’m unsure how to proceed with my ISP, as they maintain the line is performing satisfactorily and provide no error messages. What’s a suitable method for addressing this? Have you encountered any information about this problem recently?
P.S.: I’m not a beginner player. In that game, I typically maintain a kill-to-death ratio of 3.5 while utilizing sniper rifles, and recently, it’s become exceedingly difficult to reach even a 2:1 ratio. It simply feels significantly more challenging now, despite playing with the same individuals. The gameplay appears noticeably faster than it did a year ago when I had a different connection at another location.

However, when I inquired months ago about potential service charges, my ISP assured me everything was fine and there were no concerns. At that time, I realized this issue was occurring. I attempted various solutions without success. Last night, attempting to replay the game again led to immense frustration, prompting me to leave the match after a month of inactivity. I’m unsure how to approach my ISP, as they maintain that the connection is satisfactory and report no errors. What’s the best way to communicate this? Have you encountered similar problems recently?
P.S.: I’m not a new player. In this game, my statistics average 3.5 kills per death while utilizing sniper rifles, and lately, I struggle to reach a kill ratio of 2:1. It feels noticeably more difficult now, even with the same players online. Gameplay appears significantly sped up compared to a year ago when I had a different connection at another location.
My brother has the same stuttering issue, and it was resolved by replacing his hard drive and updating his operating system. When I describe these pauses, I mean the opponents’ movements appear jerky – like a missing frame when they crouch or quickly move left and right. This is most common in games with poor network code. I haven’t found a definitive solution, but strongly suspect my ISP, as the symptoms fluctuate unpredictably. Certain game mechanics—like spray transfer, aiming, tapping, and range accuracy—are affected in a variable manner. While some players can occasionally get lucky headshots with spray-and-pray, it rarely works for me, and sometimes I experience periods of brief improvement. My ISP insists the lines are normal and can’t identify any problems. The underlying issue likely resides within the server infrastructure, specifically related to routing—something beyond my ISP’s control. They *could* contact the relevant parties or adjust data pathways. Try to see if your ISP can modify your gateway/routing instructions, explaining the issue clearly; they may not fully grasp the concept. Unless the root cause is identified within the server’s infrastructure, resolving it will be difficult. It's up to me to investigate and demonstrate the problem to them. Someone suggested:
- Obtain a business package with prioritized packet handling and nrt-VBR support (this is typically unavailable for standard customers).
- Disable DLM on your account profile. This can interfere with UDP packets used by games requiring high FPS, particularly for DSL, ADSL, and VDSL connections.
- If DLM cannot be disabled, adjust the interleaving depth to its lowest setting on your profile – request your ISP to do this.
If possible in your region, achieving these changes could provide a significant advantage against other players, leveling the playing field with those using perfectly stable connections.
I'm experiencing the same issue. - My System Details: Despite consistently achieving a high and stable frame rate (approximately 200fps in CSGO on a 60Hz monitor, as demonstrated in the linked thread), I’m consistently missing shots – around 80% of my engagements. It feels like a significant delay between when I fire and when the server registers the impact, leading to the perception that enemies are killing me before I see them react. Conversely, when I shoot at opponents, they often appear to have moved elsewhere on the server, resulting in me firing at their empty locations. I’ve experimented with various input settings, as detailed in the linked thread, but nothing has resolved this problem.
Hi everyone,
It's great to discover a community where others are experiencing the same issue as me.
I’ve been investigating this problem for quite some time now.
I've experimented with various hardware, including i4770/i7700k/Ryzen 7-2700x, GTX 1080 Ti, RX 480, and the issue continues to occur.
Therefore, I strongly believe it’s not a hardware-related cause.
I recently updated my internet connection, but the network configuration hasn’t changed.
My internet speed tests show normal results – low ping and excellent download/upload speeds, with a bufferbloat score below 20ms.
Perhaps you're correct; it might be related to internet routing or Windows 10 itself.
All the systems I’ve tested are running on Windows 10.
Some users have reported that older versions of Windows 10, such as build 1607, perform better.
If you have any advice on how to optimize routing or strategies for communicating with your provider to resolve this, please share it.
Recently, my internet service provider performed a diagnostic test and reported no issues (yet another time). Through careful monitoring of my router's interface and a follow-up conversation with an ISP technician, I identified that I was experiencing continuous CRC errors which resolved after a line and router reset. Despite this, the technician couldn’t identify any underlying problems with my connection. When I suggested that faulty wiring might be the cause, they responded by stating that significantly reduced speeds and increased latency would have occurred if cabling were the issue – a suggestion I find plausible. I attempted to locate the DLM, along with the technician on their end, but it remained elusive in the panel. When I inquired about disabling it, they indicated that it couldn't be altered if it was active. I attempted to clearly explain my situation, and the technician seemed to understand at least part of it, but regarding the routing problem I described, they offered no further assistance. Consequently, I’m currently facing a difficult situation and unsure of how to proceed.
Hello, I've been experiencing this identical problem for approximately six years now, and honestly, I can only say it’s not a hardware malfunction. I simply don't know the root cause – I've attempted countless solutions, invested a huge amount of time, yet the issue persists. Losing every single match in games due to this consistently prevents me from doing anything, forcing me to play exclusively in solo mode. It’s frustrating for those who haven't encountered this issue, as gaming should be straightforward, but for me, it’s become a significant struggle at this point.
It’s challenging to resolve this issue. My friend has experienced it since July 2015, and I’ve suspected it for a while – I became aware of it fully in 2017 after discussing his situation and examining video evidence. It’s certainly not a problem with Windows or hardware, as I've tested various versions and updates, including clean installations. I’ve also replicated my friend’s setup without success.
We share a common factor: we both use Bell Canada internet with a 50 Mbps down/10 Mbps up DSL connection. We've both attempted Rogers’ 1 Gbps cable service, which, surprisingly, exacerbated the problem. Our delay and visual stutter symptoms consistently align when our ping values are synchronized. Whenever we play together, our pings change simultaneously, and we observe corresponding shifts in the problem’s severity. Therefore, it appears to be related to our internet service provider (ISP). We've exhausted numerous computer and hardware configurations.
ISPs won’t typically address this unless you can independently identify the source and demonstrate it to them. Given that we’ve struggled with this for years, a spontaneous fix is unlikely unless the ISP implements a change within their infrastructure. We don’t see any obvious indicators pointing to an ISP issue, as we maintain stable downloads and ping with minimal packet loss. We require a networking specialist to diagnose this accurately. I've lost hope for achieving my competitive gaming goals, and moving is our only potential solution – hoping the issue doesn’t travel with us. My friend moved from his family home to an apartment nearby, and he continues to experience the problem.
This issue is profoundly perplexing, potentially leading you to question your own perception and sanity. However, it’s a genuine problem; we are among those affected by this persistent difficulty. My friend and I can document specific game mechanics that fail at different times, showing each other to confirm it's not merely a subjective experience. For instance, sometimes spraying works but tapping doesn’t, or it only functions within a certain distance. This variation likely stems from inconsistent delay levels, causing noticeable stutters in visual output. Games with fast movement and poor network code highlight the problem more prominently, like Crossfire, where opponents' movements appear to skip and then rapidly catch up. Conversely, games with better network code, such as Fortnite, mask these stutters visually. We can witness opponents seemingly phasing through bullets or instantly repositioning without any register of their crosshair turning red, despite accurately hitting them.
