Hey, I see what you're asking. It's totally understandable—transitioning from one OS to another can be tricky. Yes, it is possible to customize a Chromebook to resemble a Windows desktop experience. Many users adjust settings or use third-party tools to mimic the look and feel of traditional Windows applications.

The Chrome OS environment has minimal capabilities, and I believe it's unlikely you can set up a Windows-style desktop.

I don't know for sure, but some Chromebooks include detachable SSDs. I haven't tried it before, but perhaps you could set up Windows on the SSD using another PC and then swap it back into the Chromebook? It's uncertain if it would function, but it could work if you have one with a removable drive.

It seems like you're having trouble. Just make sure the windows are installed correctly on the machine. There are many online guides to help with this.

You should probably set up Windows on the Chromebook. Or just mention that your device only runs a web browser.

You might try using a different Linux system to check if it works for your dad, though it’s not clear if Windows can be installed on a Chromebook.

Thanks, everyone for the help. I’ve looked up a lot of info online about ChromeOS, but it’s not the top choice. Still, this laptop was given to him by his job, so he needs to get comfortable with it. I’ve covered some basics already, and he’s starting to understand.

Sure thing! Glad I could assist. It seems like he’s either getting comfortable with ChromeOS or setting up a Linux distribution.
