I have a third monitor (actually a TV) that I often turn off. When I switch it back on, my open apps move to the new screen. It’s mostly a bother rather than a serious issue. I’m wondering if there’s a way to prevent this from happening. I’ve attached a screenshot of my NVIDIA control panel for reference.

Review the options at the right-click menu or screen settings. This is where I handle my configuration (two monitors and a TV). If that doesn<|pad|>, the fix involves disabling the secondary display. Go to display settings, confirm there’s only one active display (likely your monitor), then restart the PC after logging back in. Adjust settings to match step 2, connect your secondary display source using the provided link. This approach seems to address the priority issue based on monitor numbers.

Use the control panel on your screen resolution page instead of the nVidia interface. Select your main monitor and check the box labeled "make this my main display." Turn on the gray box display as an extended screen. Enabling the third display will make everything appear on your main screen. This method reflects how Windows restarts the desktop, loading the primary display first and then others as needed. With Windows 10, the behavior is slightly different—some elements appear on the second screen, likely indicating the process type and layout changes after adjustments.
