Have you seen any instances where a virus targeted hardware components, such as an old GPU, to stress-test systems? While there are no recent reports of this specifically with graphics cards, it's possible similar tactics could have been used with other devices like printers.

Hmm... I'm not convinced! I've heard about MinerMalware that steals system resources to mine Bitcoin without your awareness (until your GPU or CPU hits 100%). It seems similar in effect.

CIH is also true, it's possible to craft malware that rapidly increases your graphics card's speed to the point where it overheats or fails.
