Executing tasks for 2nd HD series
Hey there! It’s been a bit intense lately since I’ve been active here, but I remember it was really helpful the last time. I’m reaching out now because my boot SSD failed and I can’t use it anymore. I’m planning to add the old SSD as a secondary drive on my new PC. My main SSD runs Windows 10, while the failed one still has another Windows 10 installation. I have a lot of files and programs stored there that I don’t want to lose, especially for things like music projects. I figured I could try running the program from the old SSD to see if it works. Surprisingly, Steam handled it well—after a few tries, it fixed itself and now everything runs smoothly. Some apps like iTunes or Cubase still showed errors but didn’t recover on their own. Now I’m wondering how to make sure those registry entries appear on my main boot drive so I can run those programs without issues. It seems pretty straightforward since Steam did it in just a couple seconds. My old SSD is on D: and the new one is on C:, connected to F: on my HP Compaq Elite 8300 i7-3770. Thanks for your help!
You're confused because you think your old files are stored on the bad SSD, but they shouldn't affect bootability. The real issue might be something else. Check where the boot process is happening and what's causing the failure.
Couldn't you transfer or duplicate an older SSD to a new one? Regarding software, there aren't many choices. I'd suggest reinstalling and adding profiles or configurations—it's something I do regularly when using backups and resetting the OS. It usually works just fine.
Cloning the SSD might also copy the old drivers. The faulty drivers were the issue preventing you from booting, so making sure they’re updated could help. I haven’t tried moving the data yet since I’m not sure how to do it. I’ll look it up later. Thanks a lot!
I know the issue, but repair mode isn't working, chkdsk fails too, and scandisk doesn't help either. Still, I can still reach all the data.
