Hi I have never used anything apple before, and thus thought it would be fun to try macos in a VM. Now because I don't have a mac pc, I can't get an image from there. I tried some tutorials, one provided an iso which I downloaded. BUt it required me to do a lot of commands, and eventually didn't work at all. For some reason it's hard to run macos in a VM. I would like to use virtualbox, but if there is something better and free, then I can use that too. I use Linux Ubuntu.(not windows) Does anyone know how to make a macos VM?(Maybe a tutorial or video tutorial) Thanks!

I've handled this before, though it took a lot of time. Eventually I managed to get it working, except for the app store and other Apple services not letting me in due to my serial number being zero. I used VBox Manager. I'm considering setting up a hackintosh for my old Dell Latitude E7240, but last time I tried hackintosh it I got stuck with the Apple logo or crashed entirely. I'm unsure how successful it would be, but maybe you could try using VMware too—I have some VMware Workstation Pro keys lying around and used it before switching to good faithful Linux. I just want to finish this message before I lose it.

Running a Mac OS VM on a non-Mac device will be very slow. Consider it only if you're planning Hackintosh and don't have a real Mac available for this purpose.

Ah thanks. Well, I still can't get it to work. It always ends in a "Guru meditation error". I might just repurpose an old HDD for a hackingtosh installation though. Well, I don't really use the apple products, way too expensive and not enough features, and not very customer friendly in my oppinion. But I am a software developer, and sometimes people request a macos version of a program. In which case I need a macos device/os to test it.

Consider going with an Hackintosh. Renting a VM (there are services that run them on real hardware) or buying a used Mac are also possibilities I’m thinking about. I’m leaning toward the Hackintosh. I managed to get it working for the install media once—using VMware on Windows and some questionable methods, they have a guide there. Tonymacx86 can assist with the Hackintosh setup. Renting a VM will quickly add up depending on how much you need, and Apple Software is great. Mac OS helped me finish my final year in compsci because it didn’t interfere while coding, hardware was less of an issue, I think.

I mentioned a hackintosh might be a good fit. I was bored and really excited about hackintoshing my old Dell Latitude E7240 yesterday. The only problems were that USB still didn’t work, Wi-Fi almost functioned (I swapped the original card for one I stole from my dad’s laptop), and the touchpad felt a bit disappointing. I’m also curious if this approach could let it run in a virtual machine, since it seemed to work smoothly without many issues—mainly because my slow internet caused the whole process to take about 90% of the day just for downloading.
