Some Anno titles work well, though I particularly enjoy Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis 4.

I believe the top RTS title available is Company of Hereos (the original version). It comes with a steep learning curve, but once mastered, it delivers an incredible experience. The visuals remain impressive even by modern standards. In terms of gameplay, it demands a highly strategic mindset.

Command and Conquer: Generals - Shockwave mod, Battle Realms, Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge, MechCommander 2 (now free to play but still worth a try), Rise of Legends (or Rise of Nations), various Total War titles, Men of War series, among others. I've played many strategy games over the years—including SOA SE—and there are plenty more that could be considered solid after giving them a shot.
