Evolutionary algorithms in Star Wars Battlefront II
The trailer for the upcoming Battlefront was reportedly leaked, showing DICE has taken notice. The planned release will feature all three eras (including Clone Wars), a campaign mode, rideable Tauntauns, and massive space battles. The video was later taken down.
The trailer footage appears very appealing. Second, I’m uncertain that incorporating game scenarios from every era of Star Wars shows DICE paying attention, since I don’t remember that being a notable or significant point about the first Battlefront reboot. What stands out to me are the shortcomings: missing Battlefront content, no dedicated server browser, overly casual and arcade-like gameplay, and the absence of a single-player campaign. If DICE resolves all these issues, I’d be happy to agree that they’ve listened to us.
Check the Battlefront forums, YouTube channel, or any discussions about Battlefront or EA Battlefront 2. Clone Wars was the top request for BF2. Edit: Or explore the Battlefront subreddit.
If so, then this happened only after more than 95% of players left because of the points I talked about, leaving just the dedicated fans who played out of genuine interest in Star Wars. The Clone Wars era didn’t really come up in the Battlefront forums for a long time after the game came out.
It's disappointing they took so long to finish it. I could have managed without full arena fights, but the Clone Wars area was a major turnoff for me. Maps like Geonosis, Kashyyk, and Naboo were some of my favorites in the original game. They should also include bigger battles (like 64) among other improvements. That would be a big upgrade.
Battlefront 2015 wasn't a poor title since it lacked many standard extras. The main issue was that DICE and/or EA thought fans wanted a Star Wars experience that was much simpler and more approachable than what we actually offered. Another significant concern was launching it too soon, before the movie arrived. So far, these points haven't been fully resolved. It seems DICE probably considered the desire for a single-player story mode, but we'll see if they paid attention to what truly matters when we play and assess whether the game has depth enough to sustain players. Once that's confirmed, I'll take a look at the new additions.
