EVGA 3080 ti FTW3 ULTRA paired with i7 9700K offers reduced GPU load and strong CPU performance.
Hello, I've been experiencing stuttering issues and unusual GPU/CPU activity during gameplay over the past weeks. I've also noticed that in most AAA titles—such as Cyberpunk, Far Cry 6, Borderlands 3, Rust, Conan Exiles, and at maximum settings (including ray tracing and DLSS) at 1440p—I'm seeing significant fluctuations. My GPU usage swings between 60% and 80%, while my CPU stays around 50%-80%, causing annoying stutters or lag. My 3080 Ti isn't overclocked beyond setting the fan profile to Aggressive in EVGA Precision X1, and my i7-9700K is stock. I've tried updating BIOS, changing power plans, disabling drivers, adjusting performance settings, and even switching to alternative display modes like DX11 or DX12, but nothing has resolved the problem. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I understand that some games have experienced problems with the 9th generation. After Intel removed Hyperthreading support, it became a bigger issue. Clearly, simply purchasing a 9900k won't necessarily solve the problem. You said you were achieving over 60 fps, but your performance dropped—could a game setting have changed? I also see that updates or Steam bugs sometimes reset visual settings. Double-check these details, as they’re usually the main cause. Also watch for thermals and confirm your AIO is functioning correctly. Make sure you’re monitoring temperatures and keeping track of them.
Originally I believed thermals were the issue, but my CPU never exceeded 51°C in any listed games. The peak GPU performance was 80°C, which only occurred in Borderlands 3. Thermals have been behaving consistently lately. I assumed the motherboard's VRM might be overheating, based on some reports, but there’s nothing unusual about it.
I've been experimenting with a few things after another factory reset just to start fresh. In Far Cry 6 (only game I've reinstalled so far), running benchmarks without the GeForce overlay has been smooth, delivering consistent 89-91 FPS across five runs. Once I enable the overlay with alt+r, performance drops to around 81-85 FPS and I notice minor micro-stutters. Rebar seems to be the issue, but changing it doesn't help. It looks like GeForce Experience is affecting my experience or the overlay. I'm planning to reinstall Borderlands 3 and Conan Exiles to see if they perform better.
Curious. The Overlay wasn't my first choice, but for basic needs like temps and stats, MSI Afteburner and RTSS would work well.
