All my attempts fail—whether at startup or after hours. My machine doesn’t power off, there’s no BSOD, just a return to the desktop. When games use engines like Unreal or Ubisoft, I receive crash logs that usually point to memory issues. Either the Event Viewer shows code 0x000000005, or Remnant’s shaders failed to decompress, or a graphics driver vanished repeatedly on CS:GO launch. This has persisted for roughly two months. During this period, I’ve rebuilt my whole PC. Initially, I suspected the power supply unit was faulty since it was the least expensive component and expected quick failure. I swapped in an NZXT 1200C, but nothing changed. Next, I considered RAM—putting in my old sticks only improved For Honor crashes within half an hour. Then I tried my previous setup, which still suffered frequent crashes, even affecting Steam and Discord that auto-recovered. I checked temperatures, tested with a case open and a fan blowing directly on it, confirmed no overheating. I also ran Event Viewer errors about missing drivers, visited forums where corrupted drivers were common, and used DDU in safe mode to uninstall all drivers. Reinstalling newer drivers for the 3070 didn’t help. I updated BIOS, expanded the paging file, disabled DEP, increased Tdr Delay, and even thought Windows 11 might be corrupted. I ran chkdsk and DISM commands, but they had no effect. I continued troubleshooting with a 3070, which still crashed games and apps. I updated my BIOS, adjusted settings, and ran /sfc scannow, but corruption issues persisted. Eventually, I switched back to Windows 10 and still faced the same problems. I began suspecting hardware failure and focused on that. After testing six different RAM modules—each configuration tried from various lengths—I found no relief. My motherboard seemed unstable, but I wasn’t sure if it was the culprit. At this stage, I was nearly overwhelmed, so I ordered a replacement board (Z790) from Amazon, hoping it would fix the issue. Unfortunately, it didn’t. Today I received my new GPU, but it didn’t resolve the problem. I’m 99% convinced the memory is the root cause, most error codes pointing to RAM issues, and the only consistent change was adjusting RAM settings. The crashing continues despite every adjustment. I’m still trying to figure out what’s wrong, and it’s driving me completely mad.
Check your RAM performance, create a bootable USB drive using MemTest, execute it, and verify the presence of a pagefile. Ensure it expands appropriately in size if required.
thank you for your advice. Unfortunately I've exhausted every possible Ram issue possible. 3 different brands at 3 different speeds. Ive run memtest86, testmem5, and OCCT. I believe the "corruption" indicated by fault code 0x00000005 may have been related to my nvme. I've just switched it and installed windows 11 on a new samsung 970, and I havent had the issue yet. Granted its only been less than an hour and I've only tried 2 games. But alas! theres hope once more in the republic. Edit: I left out windows memory diagnostics, I tried that as well. No errors found on any of them in any configuration. very very weird circumstance I agree.
I faced similar issues with games crashing under heavy use. I upgraded my GPU and monitor, but when that didn't help, I replaced my PSU. That resolved the problem. It seems unlikely since modern PSUs are reliable, though in the early 2010s I changed three from Corsair to EVGA. If your PSU is outdated, it could be the cause; otherwise...
