Every game crashes to the desktop.
Hi there,
I’m experiencing some issues with the game. It frequently crashes, freezing for a few seconds before shutting down and leaving me on the desktop. This happens across different titles—Overcooked 2, Helldivers 2, Call of Duty, Elden Ring, Ghostrunner, Battlefield 1, etc.
The problem started after I turned off hardware acceleration in Discord settings. In the event log, I see errors like nvgwf2umx.dll and wwise_pluginw64_release.dll, or just a generic game name with an error.
I’ve managed to play for about 30 minutes at a time, but it randomly crashes after 1–2 minutes. I tried several fixes:
- Cleaning the Windows installation (before upgrading from Windows 10 to 11)
- Performing a full system format on both drives (SATA SSD 128GB and an M2 1TB drive)
- Checking cables, graphics card, RAM, and even disabling drivers with DDU
- Restarting Firefox and other programs
- Running stress tests and benchmarks
None of these resolved the issue. The game also crashes when I close it abruptly, sometimes just opening a tab.
I’ve verified all hardware is secure—cables, graphics card, RAM, and connections are intact. The PSU is an older Bequiet 650W, and the motherboard uses 1.2V. I’m using a Ryzen 5 5600 processor, Zotac RTX 4070, and a Patriot 16GB RAM module at 3200MHz.
I’m playing on a 180Hz 2K monitor, with two monitors (one 1080p 60Hz, the other 180Hz 2K). I have screenshots of CrystaldiskInfo for reference.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
PSU: some old bequiet 650w
Be specific about your Be Quiet! PSU model and age.
The game crashes. It freezes for 3-4 seconds then shuts down and I’m on the desktop.
Where did you get the installers for these games?
MOBO: ASRock B550 Pro 4
BIOS version for your motherboard?
Clean windows install (before I had Windows 10, now Windows 11, still crashes with the same error), total format of both drives (I have two: a SATA SSD 128GB and the other an m2 1TB).
Where did you get the OS installers? Did you install Windows 11 standalone or through the internal upgrade path? Was the OS installed offline?
Drive: Kingston 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe KC3000
If you think your SSD is the problem, have you checked if the drive has any pending updates?
Hello!
Note: Power zone z1-750w (believed it's 650w, actually used for 7-8 years)
All games are downloaded from Steam.
Current BIOS version: 3.3
Initially I used Windows 10, but crashes occurred after installation. I performed a clean install and then reinstalled Windows 10 via upgrade. The upgrade was done online, not offline.
Windows 11 is currently updated, and no further updates are available at the moment.
I did not use any new connectors. I connected the graphics card with the power cable—one plug has six pins, the other has two—and they "connected." Then I pressed the RAM to verify proper insertion.
