Hello, I'm going to buy a Netgear 1000Mbps Powerline kit called PL1000 but my apartment has very few outlets on the walls. The closest one near my modem is being used as a powerboard so all my other electronics can be plugged into it right now. Are there any surge protectors or power boards that would work fine if I plug the powerline into them? Or do they have to be plugged directly into the wall? Thanks!

I'd suggest buying this if you can find it for your AVM FRITZ!Powerline 1220 or the 1220E model.

Plug it straight into the wall outlet. They are made with outlets built-in. From what people say, this one blocks the top ground pretty well. Check out that Amazon link for more info: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AV10...d1...42f0fba16b&pd_rd_i=B08M13B8B6&psc=1

The reason some power line devices plug straight into the wall is because things like surge protection try to filter out signals they think are noise coming from the power unit. Plus, extension cords can act like antennas and catch interfering signals. It's a problem that powerline units often block both outlets on your wall plate. They make special powerline units with pass-through plugs so you can plug the power line device into the wall and then connect a power strip to the outlet on the device. The setup looks slightly different in different countries because the plugs might not match, but if you search online, you'll quickly find models that have a pass-through power plug built-in.

Some people, like me (I bought TP-Link AV1000), couldn't even get an internet connection to start up at all because they were plugged into different circuits. 2. Your electricity use will jump a lot (usually $30-$50). Think about this: I have a solar system and usually pay around $30 to the utility just to connect to the grid. I used Powerline adapters to put an access point in my garage. The only thing connected to that AP was a Cove camera, which I checked just to make sure it worked after a power outage. My electricity bill went up to $65. After thinking about this extra cost, I decided to move the AP somewhere else and run my own cable from the router instead.
