Event 42 not found in the viewer
At time x, the laptop lid was closed and it went to sleep. When you checked the Event Viewer at time y, you noticed an event with ID 42 indicating the laptop had entered sleep mode. At time y, there was also an event with ID 1, which recorded the wake-up time and sleep start time. This situation is quite common for laptops, where the device fails to activate after being opened. The screen would illuminate but remain inactive, forcing a forced shutdown. I installed Windows 10 build 2004 on my machine in October 2020. I kept the Xbox One controller connected via a USB cable and disabled fast startup. Over time, the laptop would wake from sleep each time I opened the lid. On January 10, 2022, it stopped waking up from sleep and the screen didn’t turn on when I opened the lid. The Xbox One controller light was also off. After performing a forced shutdown and restarting, the laptop functioned properly. After investigating, I realized the problem likely stemmed from a power setting rather than the graphics driver. Fast startup was turned off. It seems that enabling hibernate could help prevent this issue. If the Advanced Power Plan had USB selective suspend enabled, it might have contributed to the problem by disabling USB ports when sleeping. When I opened the lid during the incident, the controller port might have been disabled due to selective suspend, preventing the Xbox One from powering on and causing a freeze. Regarding the event ID 42, it should appear in the Event Viewer at time x when the lid was closed and slept, and at time y when the laptop woke up. This matches option b: both events occur at time y.
