Im currently rocking a Ryzen 5 5600X and RTX 4060 build and ive been looking into whether i should spend the $600-$700 on a platform upgrade for my tower for CPU/Ram/Mobo/Cooler From digging on here, looking at videos, im getting mixed results Ive been looking at recommended system requirements for upcoming games and im starting to see the 5600X show up. I also had really high CPU utilization for Indiana Jones and Avowed through Xbox Gamepass on PC. I read on here from doing some searching that the 4060 wont be bottlenecked by the 5600X, but im worried if ill be wasting money either doing a platform upgrade, or by buying a better GPU once the new AMD and Nvidia cards are out and supply is better. I do have a 1440p 144hz monitor from LG i used to game on(when i had a 4070 Super i had to sell unfortunately) and my current AOC 180hz 1080p monitor I'm looking at 3 options 1. GPU Upgrade 2. Platform Upgrade to AM5 or Intel 3. Save up for a new tower in a couple years With the next gen of consoles not due until probably 2027 or 2028, i figure im good platform wise with current gen being the bottom tier for devs. However, with the way some games are starting to really push my CPU, im now debating how much longer can i hold out. My previous 2 PC's i built new ones within 4 years (I5 4670K in 2014 and then I5 8400 in 2018) Any suggestions on what i should do?

Your funds would be more effectively used on a new GPU for 1440p 144 resolution. The CPU handles it adequately at the moment, though you could upgrade later. It seems like a roughly 70/30 balance between GPU and CPU is typical for me right now. Currently, my 7800X3D is running at 39% usage, while the 7900XTX is at full capacity.

Whatever you do, switching to an Intel platform right now is a bad idea. LGA 1700 is already outdated, and LGA 1851 has only one generation left, and that's enough. Intel should consider adding another generation on 1851, but it's uncertain if they'll deliver quality. With my 14900K and 4080 in In Ark Ascended—a UE5 title—I'm experiencing maximum CPU usage on two cores and high activity across many others. This isn't a huge problem (since UE5 is already problematic in so many areas), especially if my GPU is also heavily loaded. You realize you're CPU-limited when the GPU stays under 98% utilization. AMD's new 9070 XT is expected soon at a reasonable price, providing solid performance (likely similar to a 4080). This represents a much better investment than a platform upgrade now, because even AM5 doesn't significantly outperform your 5600X, and a 4060 isn't great either.

Get the GPU if possible, the AMD 9070 seems really strong. Focus less on the CPU until you notice it running at full capacity; I’d define a rec trying to grab the 9070 then wait for sales before upgrading your platform. A better GPU will make a much bigger difference than just a platform upgrade.
