I’ve got an 8700K OC’ed to 5.1 GHz @ 1.365V. Thinking about upgrading to a 9700K or 9900K? It depends on your needs. You’re not using the extra cores for heavy multitasking, so a single-core processor should suffice. Also, swapping out the board isn’t necessary since you already have a MEG Z390 ACE, and replacing it would be costly. Unless you’re planning to run demanding apps or games, waiting might be fine.
Sure, I understand. It should handle the workload without issues. Your system is already optimized with overclocking at 5.1 GHz across all cores.
It’s nice to know that. I’m relieved I didn’t buy the 9900K during its sale on Newegg. It does heat up a bit at 5.1 GHz and 1.365V. Up to around 92°C when using Timespy Extreme, but games like Resident Evil 2 (remake), PUBG, Devil May Cry 5, Sekiro, etc., keep it under 85-88°C. So I think it’s fine at that frequency.
Not the CPU, right? I believe it was another part. Plus, since then new CPUs have been released, so the solution might have shifted. I’m pretty sure if I ask this in a year or two it could be different—or you’d probably say “Yes! Upgrade to the new XYZ.”
