Hello everyone, I came here to discuss my observations about the new 10th generation 8 core space heater from Intel. The Dell XPS 17 with 10875H model offers a PL2 of 135W and PL1 of 75W when in ultra performance mode. There are three other settings (optimised, quiet, and cool), each focusing on different priorities but generally reducing the lower power limits. The numbers are: 62W for optimised, 35W for cool, and 20W for quiet. The PL2 Boost lasts about 26 seconds by default. Testing the CPU via a TeamViewer client showed lower performance, though the differences between power levels should still be noticeable. The CPU performs well up to around 45W, after which gains slow down. The vapor chamber couldn’t push temperatures beyond 55W, but adding more power didn’t significantly improve cooling. For manual testing in XTU, PL1 and PL2 were capped at lower values. Cinebench R20 results varied from 25W to 3.6GHz, showing solid performance up to about 45W. The thermal design power stays around 55W, yet it quickly hits its limits, especially at higher settings. At 55W, the cooling system struggled (likely due to TIM issues) and the CPU throttled sharply, resulting in a lower score. Dell seems to have set high PL1 and PL2 thresholds without overloading the processor. The vapor chamber reliably handles short bursts up to roughly 100W, but can’t maintain that for extended use. I believe 45W is the practical ceiling, though further testing will confirm. I’m planning to adjust my limits manually and post updated findings. I’m aware of my limitations and may have made some errors—please let me know if you see anything wrong.
