I recently purchased a Fairphone 3 and planned to install e on it, but I learned about Ubuntu Touch as a similar OS option. Since there’s limited public information about both, I’m seeking advice from users who’ve tried them. I’m a fan of open-source solutions, my current PC uses Ubuntu 20.04, yet the allure of Play Store access makes e interesting. Any recommendations?

/e is a tailored Android ROM, akin to Lineage OS. Ubuntu Touch, however, operates as a distinct platform (far removed from even traditional desktop Ubuntu), offering its own set of applications—primarily web-based ones. It functions adequately, and many popular services have corresponding apps, though the range remains quite narrow. Android applications are available through Anbox, but this isn't a primary solution. Additionally, the system imposes several unusual technical constraints: background app execution is generally restricted (except for music players), the root file system is read-only, all apps run in strict sandboxes, and these limitations can be quite challenging to navigate for advanced users.
