Are there any players around here who enjoy EU4 (Europa Universalis 4)? I'm just starting out and would love some advice. I tried France today and managed to beat a coalition of 250,000 strong that was formed against me. My 50,000-strong force clashed with Austria and we won easily.

Playing the "retreat" tactic works well in France.

You expanded aggressively and quickly. Be cautious about your rapid growth. If another nation reaches or surpasses 50 with you, they may unite against you. The alliance will react based on their strength—army numbers, available resources, and past conflicts. Consider the landscape; choosing defensive areas like forests, mountains, or hills can neutralize the enemy’s advantages. Each terrain type imposes disadvantages for attackers. Use rivers as chokepoints to amplify penalties. Keep an eye on attrition—maintaining 27 troops on a territory with limited supply is risky and could lead to significant losses if you ignore it. I was ahead of my time with military technology, which eased concerns about the terrain bonus since I had plenty of troops and the tech boost provided a strong edge. I waited about two years, but there was no aggressive expansion happening.

Played a fresh EU4 game. Acquired some territory (about two provinces), set up my forces in Paris, kept my army funding low to save resources, got caught in the Burgundy wars, paid for charges on Paris, managed to reduce morale with heavy losses, returned home, won the conflict, added four more provinces, and then a massive 220k-strong coalition emerged...

It seems you might have received an item without any right to it, and taxes were particularly high. The "aggressive expansion" terms appear on the peace agreement page.
