For the two runs in the ceiling, if you're keen on avoiding interference and planning for future upgrades, consider STP Cat6a. This demands that both cable ends connect to correctly grounded devices, allowing expansion up to 10Gbit and blocking interference from nearby electrical wiring. Edit: Pay attention to whether the jacket is Riser or Plenum sheathing, as local regulations may affect fire safety requirements. Also note the core type—solid cores are typically installed in walls.

I understand the details and my response might have been brief. For your setup, you should use Cat 6 or Cat 6a cables. Since your internet switch is the slowest, higher speeds like 7 or above won’t be a big issue. When choosing a cable, look for quality brands to ensure reliability.

He clarified his needs by asking about the latest Ethernet cable options. He wants assurance that he selects the appropriate cables for ceiling installation and optimal internet performance. He suggests considering Cat6 as a solid choice, and if possible, using 5G over Cat5e since that aligns better with his current setup. He emphasized that understanding the expected load helps in making accurate predictions, noting that typical speeds for Cat5e are around 2.5 to 5GB per second—not 100MB/s as often claimed. He also mentioned that many factors influence the final decision, and he wasn’t sure if the numbers were entirely accurate.

Yes, two additional options are available. Cat 6 appears to be the top choice. You may want to check specific names or brands. There are many different companies producing CAT6 cables.

Many companies attempt to label copper-clad aluminum products as cables, even when they don’t meet the necessary specifications. These materials tend to be very fragile and difficult to work with. Additionally, keep in mind that Cat7 isn’t officially recognized by TIA/EIA as a standard—only ISO exists for it. After 6A, the next widely accepted option is Cat8, which supports 40Gbps but comes at a high cost.

You'll likely need STP wire when working near power lines and must follow building codes, which is usually the recommended option
