Hello everyone. I'm planning to improve my garage's networking setup, which is currently in disarray. I need a network switch but face challenges with running cables down the stairs. Powerline adapters exist, though they aren't very reliable. I'm considering a router as a wireless bridge placed strategically for better coverage. Any suggestions on affordable options?

I believe running a cable is the most effective solution. A bridged router won't significantly improve performance, and an Ethernet cable would be more affordable.

The entire point of my post was to find a solution other than a cable. I have no way to run a cable due to the construction of my house. It can be done, but it wouldn't be very easy. I'm thinking something using Wi-Fi could be alright if the range is sufficient. I'm using an old AirPort Express right now, and it works alright, but isn't the fastest.

What speed are you aiming for? Would it be feasible to run cable through the ductwork? The most effective choice seems to be a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi setup, and getting it as near as possible would be ideal.

I prioritize speed. Running anything through ducts won’t work here—the garage doesn’t have ventilation. I’ll explore a Wi-Fi solution instead.

The garage is either separate or connected. If it's separate, you can use a directional antenna at both ends. Even if it's connected, it might still work depending on what you're doing.
