I recently purchased a new USB Wi-Fi adapter and connected it to my PC after attempting to link to my Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, it completely disrupted my network, requiring me to reset the router. I’ve resolved this before by reinstalling Windows, but that was cumbersome. Setting up an Ethernet connection in my room would also be a hassle. Any advice or alternatives would be greatly appreciated.

I encountered an issue with a budget USB adapter that might assign the same IP address to both systems. I resolved it by linking to the guest network.

I meant to clarify your question. Could you explain what you're referring to? I need to know the behavior you observed and the USB WiFi adapter's make or model.

Have you attempted linking the dongle to a different machine? It's also possible it's out of stock. Occasionally, faulty network cards can flood the network with useless data, disrupting all connections.

Linked it to my laptop and it functioned immediately, improving my signal so it’s not a drop.

Consider resetting the network settings in Windows first to ensure everything is functioning properly before switching ports.

Plug it in and connect to your network, then run the CMD commands ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew. A GUI reset probably won’t alter the adapter settings. You might want to try booting another operating system to see if the issue persists. This can help determine whether the problem lies with hardware or software.
