Looking forward to tackling this game again. What essential modifications should I consider? I haven’t played it in a while.

I attempted to set it up but it reported missing your game file. Even when placing the installer in the same directory as your game, the issue persisted.
The Complete Mod significantly simplifies the experience, though it’s the only recommendation I could offer for a new session—most other mods alter the game greatly. I strongly advise installing the realistic weapon pack and setting the difficulty to master. my2c
It’s probably a good idea to start with Stalker Soup / People Soup mod, even though it might not seem ideal at first. This mix brings together elements from Narodnaya Solyanka, DMX, AMK and many others—about eight gigabytes of files to download shows just how extensive it is. It significantly enhances the game and adds a lot more content. After trying it out, vanilla will feel like an early version. Keep in mind it's still in beta, so some bugs or crashes might happen occasionally, but I managed to finish the original story almost perfectly.
