Curious about how common in-game matchmaking is versus using ESEA. I recently got back into gaming as a CS:S player, switched to GO, and started using the matchmaking feature. It’s frustrating because it often places me with players of all skill levels, which affects my rank. I’m considering returning to ESEA to find better matches. What do others think about in-game matchmaking? Let me know!

I use CSGO in-game matchmaking or FaceIt. For safety, most cheaters fall into 98% using ESEA.

I was earning my rank for the first time with a solid 10 comp wins. My matches were mostly against players ranked from Nova up to Supreme—very few silvers and unranked. I didn’t enjoy the competition enough to keep playing, plus I didn’t have a team so I didn’t want to stay online. Now I play casually and it’s way more relaxed. My brother also plays CSGO and used to use in-game matchmaking and ESEA, but he switched to CEVO and is really enjoying it there. We live in Southern California, and for some reason Valve either doesn’t have servers in LA or they’re terrible—we always get ping times of 90ms-100ms during matchmaking, and the servers are only 64-bit. The CEVO servers are 128-bit and available in most major regions worldwide. If you like ESEA, go for it there, but CEVO is a solid alternative!

Here I stand, competing solo at the MG level. I didn’t like ESEA before the Bitcoin scandal, but after that, I’d consider CEVO or Faceit.
