Error with hard drive partitioning issue.
Error with hard drive partitioning issue.
I bought a used Dell Latitude laptop recently. After installing an SSD, everything works smoothly. However, the old hard drive inside still won’t reformat. I’ve used the command prompt and reached the "select disk 1" stage. When I type commands like "clean" or "create partition primary," the window says there’s no disk selected. The disk manager lists it as having four partitions, including an OEM one, but when I try to format through the manager, it crashes. I’ve noticed the drive appears unreadable in the manager yet shows multiple partitions. I’m using this drive via an external enclosure—other drives connect fine there. Also, I’m experiencing the same issue with my MacBook Pro. Thanks for any help!
Have you checked a correct SATA setup? I’ve faced problems with drive cases. It seems the drive uses NTFS, which makes formatting tricky on a Mac due to the boot partition manager issues.
I’ve been testing it using Windows 10 on my Latitude since I know that system better. I’m unsure about setting up a proper SATA connection because my main computer is now in storage.
