Hello, I’m experiencing a problem that has grown more common over the past few months. Previously it might have occurred once a week, but now even short gaming sessions can cause the screen to freeze and audio to cut out. The machine stays on but doesn’t shut down properly; only pressing the power button forces it to stop. Using the event logger revealed a "recoverable" device error shortly before the crash. The affected hardware is listed as an Intel® PCIe Controller (x16) - 1901. I’ve looked for details about this model but found little understandable information. I attempted a BIOS update via HP’s Assistant, but it failed to load the device image. I’m considering replacing either my GPU or motherboard, though I’m unsure which part is responsible. It only happens during gaming, not when browsing or streaming. I’ve also stress-tested my GPU and CPU without triggering the issue.

Have you attempted to update your BIOS directly through the BIOS interface instead of using Windows?

I plan to try it out the next day after receiving the flash drive.

The BIOS was successfully updated but failed to stop the system from crashing.
