I was attempting to run an older DX9 title, but it won’t start even after removing and reinstalling it. The event logger indicated an issue with the XAudio2_4.dll file. Can you find a reliable backup of Windows to repair this file?

You can perform a system check for missing DLLs using the command prompt. If you need guidance, look up the steps and try them out.

I’m uncertain about sharing a file copy or accepting random DLLs from strangers online. While it’s possible someone could provide one, I’m not confident it’s the best approach. From what I understand, it’s likely part of DirectX, so reinstalling DX9 might resolve the issue.

I’m running a test bench on a clean Windows 10 installation and confirmed the game functions properly. Since you’ve already used the DX installer from Steam to reinstall, would it help removing the existing files and starting fresh with DX9?

It's definitely possible to proceed. You might also consider downloading a DX9 installer directly from Microsoft. The pre-installed version could have some problems.

I tried deleting the file then running the install from Microsoft and the issue is still present. Here is the event error log, maybe there is something in there that I am missing. Maybe this reflects a wider compatibility concern rather than a problem with the file or DX9 itself. It seems like an isolated error pointing to something bigger. I’m hesitant to suggest it unless you’ve already tested it in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or an earlier version.

It was actually one of my initial strategies. What's interesting is it functions well even after a fresh installation or on an Ubuntu-based system.

It functions well on Lego Harry Potter 5-7. Regarding DX9 and newer hardware, there may be compatibility concerns with the 9900k and 2080ti.

I don't recognize anything similar, yet that doesn't imply it's impossible at all.
