You might have a virus preventing you from using the Registry Editor, and a suspicious antivirus is blocking it. Verify that the application is indeed regedit.exe from Microsoft. Press Start, enter "regedit" in the search bar, then right-click on the result and choose Properties. Check the Details section to confirm it's labeled as Microsoft-made. Alternatively, right-click regedit and select Run as administrator.
