I've encountered an issue with my Schiit stack combo for the DAC/AMP. It recently triggered a port reset failed error in Device Manager, which isn't appearing in the playback devices area of my audio controls. Despite fixing it three or four times before, the solution seemed inconsistent. I've experimented with various methods—switching USB ports, restarting the PC, reinstalling drivers, disabling unrelated audio drivers, changing DAC mode, and even connecting it to a Windows 7 laptop. The problem persists when using Device Manager, and I can't find a reliable fix online. I've also tried modifying registry settings after a failed attempt, but nothing seems to work consistently. Someone with experience would appreciate any guidance.

Hi, I followed the steps you described and it didn’t solve the issue permanently. Every time I restart my PC, it still can’t locate the modi and there’s no sound through my headphones. This is how I usually deal with it—temporarily fixing things. First, I install the newest REALTEK AUDIO drivers and restart the CPU. Then I update the USB drivers for my motherboard and restart the USB connection. With these changes, it works until I power off the computer. I’m not sure what’s causing the problem, but it seems related to compatibility with my ASUS ROG RAMPAGE IV GENE mATX motherboard and the modi version of Windows 10.

I value your reply despite the fact that it was over a year ago. I fixed the problem by avoiding the Modi 2 entirely, submitted the device for a return, and cleared the RMA, but I wasn’t informed my warranty had ended before sending it in. Requested a repair cost that was more than half the price of the new DAC after shipping charges were added. Their customer service was disappointing—emails seemed unprofessional, the reps made grammatical errors, and they even misspelled product names. It became clear the Modi 2 failed before my warranty period ended. I assumed the issue was on my side, so I didn’t send it again. After testing in late 2017, I concluded it was a faulty unit. I won’t purchase another Schiit product; I opted for a Topping D30 instead. This model is actually quite solid for its price range: https://audiosciencereview.com/forum/ind...view.2016/ Device disassembly: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum...-dac.2230/

I found this solution that consistently solved the issue. For those experiencing the port reset failure error, using a fresh USB cable has proven effective in both instances.

You found an old discussion again. Thanks for sharing the details, but I didn’t receive the DAC from schiit after I sent it. Still using the Topping D30—it performs well! I’ll remember this for next time if I run into a similar issue. Thanks!
