Error encountered while attempting to upgrade the CPU.
Hello everyone, I received an older PC with a Dell Inspiron 3847 and an i3-4130 CPU. It was used for browsing the web and social media. I purchased a used i7-4770 CPU online and had it delivered. After installation, I noticed an amber light flashing twice. I looked up Dell flash codes and saw it indicated a CPU failure—so it was dead. I reinstalled the i3 and now have a steady amber light. From Dell’s info about the solid amber light, they mentioned it was related to hibernation mode. They didn’t provide details for troubleshooting other solid amber colors. There were no beeps before or after the issue. Has anyone experienced this problem? Do you have any suggestions or is the motherboard no longer functional?
Handled a failing motherboard—it's frustrating and hard to fix. The issue kept escalating, especially when it warned about the CPU being faulty. From Dell Community Desktop General:
Disconnect the PC, detach the battery, maintain power for 10 seconds. Reattach the battery, reinsert the PC, and restart it. If unsuccessful, the Mobo may have triggered a failure or a pin could be damaged in the CPU socket.
