Error encountered while attempting to connect the printer to the network.
I have a vintage PC running Windows 7 Small Business Edition that I upgrade to Windows 10. I intend to use it as a printer server. After installing the driver on my print server PC, I shared the printer and thought everything was done. But when I returned to my Windows 11 machine, the printer appeared in my network, yet accessing it prompted for login credentials even though sharing was disabled. Once I successfully connected, the shared printer showed up, but clicking to connect triggered an error.
I can now reach the printer PC. It wasn’t listed on the network, but entering its IP manually worked. I have a shared folder named "Scans" that I created, but I still can’t connect to the printer. A pop-up asks for credentials, yet nothing is accepted. The firewall is disabled.
To share the printer properly, follow a few steps. Ensure both sharing and security settings include everyone. Grant full permissions to both parties. Install the correct driver for your device. It seems your sharing account hasn’t been completed yet. If you used the security method, double-check that all participants are added.
What are the sharing options? Also, if you enter "./administrator" as a user, it should recognize the local admin on that machine. Since they aren't part of the domain, you might need to enable Anonymous logon to see the security details. After Windows 7, the interface became more complicated and altered how everyone accessed the system.
Ensure security settings are active, press add, enter "anon" and search. It should highlight an option and you can click OK. This process might apply after XP when access was limited to specific users. It works only for the computer you're connected to or if a domain is set up. You can link to your PC and store the username and password there (PC name/user). I mainly handle network printers or domain machines.
