I just upgraded my computer. I'm using a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB with a Mobo heatsink today. While installing games, the SSD hit 55°C (with a tray monitor) and windows froze completely. The cursor wouldn't move at all. This was similar to a previous boot issue, but much more severe and at such low temperatures. Should I replace the drive or just add a better heatsink with a larger fan? That setup worked before too, but the problem wasn’t that extreme.

Consider updating the firmware; those SSDs had some problems before, but I don’t recall them freezing the windows.

I wasn't aware of any previous fixes. It's best to check if the issue can be resolved, or consider returning the drive if problems persist. Updating the firmware is an option, but I remain concerned about potential known issues.

It happened a while back, and if the software update doesn’t help, I’m not sure what else to do. It might be safer to send it back, especially since it’s a costly device.

It seems the most affordable Gen4 1TB drive is performing well.

Gen 4 drives seem a bit expensive on their own, but how did you manage to get the best price for it?

Spain. It has risen recently. The P3 Plus costs 70 ATM. It runs a bit behind the Samsung model. If you bring it back, how would you securely wipe a boot drive?

Optimal approach involves securing the entire storage with encryption and then reformatting it at least twice using a bootable Linux USB. The P3 Plus offers solid performance but slower write speeds compared to other options. It’s a QLC type drive which tends to degrade faster than TLC drives like the Samsung, though it still performs well. I recently verified that the WD Black SN850X is available at a lower price than the 980 Pro and is definitely a worthwhile investment.
