I own an LG Gram 14z990 (i5-8265U) with 8GB RAM and one expansion slot currently empty. It features two SSD slots—one already has a 256GB M.2 SATA drive. I have a 480GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD ready for use. According to HWinfo and the LG website, the laptop supports PCIe 3.0 NVMe. However, inserting this SSD into the laptop doesn’t produce any display output. The machine starts and remains on, allowing me to use hotkeys for backlight control, but there’s no screen visibility—not even the logo. I can’t even access the BIOS. I’ve attached photos of the problem, the SSD, and the slot setup. I’ve tested both slots individually and together with the old SATA drive; as long as the NVMe SSD is present, there’s no display. Removing the SSD resolves the issue. I’ve attempted various BIOS settings—changing to AHCI, performing a reset, disabling Safe Boot, entering Safe Mode—and nothing works. The NVMe SSD functions properly on the desktop in a PCIe slot, indicating the drive itself is not faulty. This is the challenge I’m encountering. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It asks about the function or purpose of something in the second port.

I attempted it in both ports, using the other SSD that came with the laptop, and the issue remained consistent across all situations.

Check the BIOS for additional M.2 configurations and consider swapping to PCIe if needed.

No, it doesn't. The main features are PCIe control settings and AHCI configuration.

The laptop is compatible with PCIe 3.0 and includes lane information on the motherboard. I checked all relevant BIOS settings and reset them, but nothing worked. Consider upgrading to a different NVMe SSD such as the WD SN570 or opting for a standard m.2 SATA drive.
