I purchased the Gothic trilogy today and encountered an access violation error while playing Gothic 1. I've attempted to disable Steam Overlay, tried running it in compatibility mode, but nothing worked. Have you seen the screenshot? Are there any additional solutions you recommend?

I discovered this on a Steam discussion thread. It seems the SystemPack resolves many problems, particularly for Windows 7 and 8. It might be worth trying, though I’d recommend backing up the game first in case it doesn’t install properly.

I just installed it now and I’m seeing yet another issue—this time it’s claiming the Gothic 1.08k_mod tried to run a privileged instruction? What even is going on?

Have you attempted to execute it with administrator privileges? (For right-click, select Run as Administrator OR adjust properties and enable the option)

Attempted it before, but nothing worked either.

You likely checked the installation details on the Gothic ½ – SystemPack website, correct?

It could be a problem with the Steam edition you're using. You might want to request a refund and consider purchasing from GOG instead.
