I recently encountered a corrupted Windows file on my hard drive. I tried formatting it using CMD with the diskpart command to list volumes, which showed my 298GB drive as RAW FS and suggested selecting volume 2. I assumed it was for NTFS format but later realized it might have been RAW instead. After reformatting, I installed Windows 10. However, the installation stopped after about ten minutes due to an error. I don’t remember the exact message, but I know the drive came from my laptop. Once I connected it to my PC and removed the old HDD.

I didn't modify the hard drive. It was just a standard Windows update, and one of the files got damaged... That's why I chose to reformat it.

You've installed a new version of Windows but it's not working. It looks like the disk might be faulty.

it doesn't matter how you format it; installation won't work if it's in the wrong format. It would warn you to change it. why not try installing it directly on your laptop? Windows 10 activation depends on hardware, and moving it later could cause problems. maybe the disk is failing, or I once had a computer that couldn't install Windows because its RAM was bad. faulty RAM can lead to strange errors.

You can create a boot disk or USB using Mem test. As @Stefken89 mentioned, it might indicate faulty RAM. Explore the Ultimate Book CD for these utilities. They also offer tools to assess your hard drive. If your hard drive is failing, now is an ideal moment to switch to an SSD. Give your machine a fresh start.
