Hello Forum Member, thank you for taking the time to read this. I recently purchased a new game on Steam (Defy Gravity Extended Edition) and wanted to try it out right away. However, during installation, an error appeared. The system instructed me to install the .Net Framework 3.5. Naturally, I thought: fine, let’s go with Windows 8.1 and install it! But after a while, another problem emerged: I couldn’t connect to the internet (though the connection was active), with error code 0x800F0906. I’ve been searching online for solutions, trying nearly every suggestion available. The steps I attempted included:

- Installing normally – error 0x800F0906
- Adding it via Programs and Features – error 0x800F0906
- Using the installation disc in a DVD writer/reader – stopped at 66.5% with error 0x800F081F
- Using an offline installer for the .NET Framework 3.5 – error 0x800F081F
- Searching with 'gpedit.msc' – program missing
- Using 'regedit.exe' – program absent
These attempts have all failed. I’ve spent several hours trying to fix it and still can’t resolve the issue. I’m really hoping someone has the expertise to help, as this is causing me a lot of frustration.

Here are my system details:
- Alienware 17 (not recommending expensive alternatives)
- Windows 8.1 Home Edition (Windows DVD installed)

I recently replaced my hard drive and used the official disc for installation. My specs are:

- Hard Drive: WDC WD7500BPKX-75HPJT0
- CPU: Intel Core i7-4700MQ @ 2.40 GHz
- RAM: 16 GB DDR3
- Graphics: Integrated 4600 HD (2 GB) + Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M (4 GB)
- Wi-Fi adapter: Broadcom 802.11ac-networkadapter
- Ethernet: Killer e2200 Gigabit
- DVD: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GA31N
- Speakers: Realtek High Definition Audio

If you have any further advice or need more information, please let me know. I really appreciate your help!

I encountered issues setting up the .NET Framework before. The best solution was simply reinstalling Windows.
